ARCHITECT: UNIDENTIFIED, (123-129 AD)

Castel Sant' Angelo, also known as the Mausoleum of Hadrian, in Parco Adriano, Rome, was originally commissioned as a mausoleum for Roman Emperor Hadrian.
In 401 AD, the mausoleum was converted to a fortress and castle, and now serves as a museum.
On the top is a statue of Michael the Archangel.
The large structure sits on the right bank of the Tiber a few blocks from the Vatican.
Pope Nicholas III connected Sant' Angelo to St Peter's Basilica with a covered fortified corridor called the Passetto di Borgo.
This passage was used by the protagonists in the movie and book "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown.
